Position of the Economic Justice Network - Lesotho on
the
Economic Partnership Agreements
under negotiations in their current form
The Economic Justice Network – Lesotho (EJN-L)
undertook an impact assessment study early this year to
establish the nature and impact of the Economic
Partnership Agreements (EPAs) on the economic growth of
Lesotho, its integration within the regional and global
market as well as their impact on poverty eradication
and development. The study revealed a number of
impactions of the EPA, both positive and negative on
Lesotho if the country signs. It is in this light that
the EJN-L wishes to present its position on the Lesotho-EU
EPA in its current form. Negotiations are still on
course, and the WTO waver of December 2008 might not be
met by most African countries, including Lesotho. This
position is anchored on five points of argument that the
network feels must be considered by both Lesotho
government and the EU for a mutual benefit.
